Our Mission:
We are committed to assist people with developmental needs to live, work and participate fully in the community as valued partners.
Who Are We:
We have been part of the Owen Sound and the Saugeen Shores community since 1954 when a group of parents and other concerned citizens opened a school for children with developmental disabilities. Crofthaven School was followed by our first adult program in 1960. Since that time we have continued to provide meaningful support for children and adults and their families throughout North Grey and Central Bruce Counties.
Our Core Values
The Core Values represent the shared perspectives of the people within Community Living Owen Sound and District: self advocates, families, leadership and staff. To further our understanding of how the Core Values shape our work, we have included the interpretation of the Core Values by representatives of the self advocates group (in italics).
Dignity and Worth of Every Person
I am appreciated for who I am. My situation is unique and never like a text book.
Mutual Respect and Healthy relationships
Respect goes both ways in healthy relationships. I want to be respected and I will respect others.
Family and Friends
I am part of a circle of family and friends and that is important to me.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Respect everyone’s privacy and property.
Informed Choice
Support me in making informed choices, so that I can fulfill my dreams.
Risk, Opportunity and Lifelong learning
There is good risk and bad risk. I want the opportunity to learn and try new things. If I mess up, nobody says’ I told you so’, and I can learn from all my experiences.
Community Inclusion
Being included and participating in things I enjoy is important to me.
What Do We Do
With a focus on successful inclusion of children and adults who have developmental needs within their communities we provide assistance using Person Centred and Family Centred planning through our:
- Infant Development Program
New born infants to the age of five who have a developmental disability or are at risk of delay.
- Preschool Resource Program – County of Grey
Assists children 3 to primary school who have a delay in two or more areas in their family home and preschool settings.
Provides families with case management, assistance in advocacy and access to community and association resources.
Provided through supported employment, school to community transition, accommodation supports and community access.
Provides employment through a variety of assembly, packaging, outdoor contracts and production of products made from recycled computer parts.
Volunteers provide valuable assistance by offering friendship and support in accessing our community.
