Community Living Meaford

Our Mission:
To assist people with developmental needs to live in a state of dignity, to share in all elements of living in the community, and have the opportunity to participate effectively

Who Are We:
A part of North Grey County since 1955 when parents and the Kent Women’s Institute saw a need for a school system for children with developmental disabilities.  In 1969, the Kay Butchart Workshop for adults was started. Residential services began in 1981.

Family: we believe in the importance of family and will encourage active family involvement in each person’s life

  • Privacy: all people have the right to privacy.  They own their privacy and they have the right to share or not to share.
  • Community: everyone belongs.  Inclusion and the responsibilities of citizenship benefit the person and the community as a whole.
  • Individualized Personal Support: every person is entitled to receive support in a manner that reflects the values of this agency and the principles of the person centred approach
  • Behavioural Support: all behaviour has a communicative intent.  It is our responsibility to discover its meaning and act on its purpose in a way that preserves a person’s dignity, safety and well being as well as the safety and well being of others.

What Do We Do

Focusing on inclusion within the community we provide assistance through our:

  • Downtown Connection Centre:  providing day activities, community participation and opportunities in the workers’ cooperative
  • Community Access Program: provides activities and community interaction          
  • Clarksburg Developmental Program:  providing day activities, supported employment and community participation in the Beaver Valley
  • Woodworking Department: a co-op  program with contract work, and wood production.
  • Supported Independent Living Program: assists  adults to live in the community
  • Group Homes: residential homes with 24 hour support
  • Workers  Co-op offers employment opportunities through a worker operated cooperative
