Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living provides services and programs that support individuals who are developmentally handicapped and their families, so that they may have opportunity to participate and share in community life as equal and valued partners.

Guiding Principles

  • Place the needs of the individual first, while respecting the supportive role that family members and friends provide;
  • Provide quality services that allow each individual the opportunity for personal growth and development through participation in community activities;
  • Allow for flexibility in the way services are provided to be able to respond to each person 's needs and desires;
  • Be organized as efficiently as possible in order to maximize the capacity for service;
  • Be prepared to respond to the needs of all clients. The agency will not turn anyone away. They may not be able to provide all the need service, but will provide what they can;
  • Involve family when planning for services for the client, and;
  • Build on partnerships with other agencies.

Our History

The Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living was established in 1963 and has evolved since that time as services for it's target groups have changed. It has incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable organization under the name Wiarton and District Association for Mentally Retarded and it's current letters date back to May 1980.

Supports provided by BPACL include Family support, referrals, individual support for special needs adults and children, adult day program, residential supports, recreation and leisure programs like Special Olympics.
